Business Performance

Tourism Promotion Services is one of the main participants in the hospitality industry courtesy of the Serena group of hotels. The firm has embarked on and largely succeeded in putting up hotels and lodgings in most of the major tourist attractions in the region with a view to enhancing its Serena brand name as a mark of quality in the industry and thereby cementing brand royalty in the up market tourist segment. In addition, the firm continues to maintain and upgrade existing facilities in a bid to widen its market scope and capture a larger share of the conference-market segment.

The firm recently opened its new facility in Uganda — Kampala Serena Hotel — which will go along way in boosting its regional brand positioning. This will also enable the firm to be a major beneficiary of next year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Kampala.

In the first half of 2006, turnover stood at KES 1.39 Billion while recording a profit before tax of KES 120.00 Million in with earnings settling at KES 78.50 Million. All in all, the second half of the year should be able to generate a better performance as the peak season falls in this period.

Future Prospects

In view of the continued robustness in the tourism sector, as shown by the 13.3% growth in tourism arrivals in the first seven months of 2006, the firm's revenue base is also likely to continue on an upward trend.
